Buddhism is a dharma, non-theistic religion and a philosophy. [1] Buddhism is also known as Buddha Dharma or Dhamma, which means "Buddha's teachings in Sanskrit and Pali, languages of ancient Buddhist texts. Buddhism was founded around the V century BC by Siddhartha Gautama, hereafter referred to as the Buddha. " Christianity is a monotheistic [1] religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, as is presented in the New Testament. [2] Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament. With an estimated 2100 million adherents in 2001, Christianity is the largest religion in the world. [3] is the dominant religion in Europe, America, South Africa, the Philippines and Oceania. [4] There is also growing rapidly in Asia, especially China and South Korea [5]. Christianity shares its origins and many religious texts with Judaism, especially the Hebrew Bible, known to Christians as the Old Testament.
